This month we are featuring one of Ukraine’s well known Yoga and Sports Master Andrei Siderski. Many people may not be aware that Russia is one of the leading country which conducts many research on yoga and its many benefits. In the 1980’s and 1990’s, many students from USSR traveled to India to study yoga. Andrei is an individual who did not limit his learning from just one teacher or from one tradition. His inflatable water slide application of yogic techniques on various water sports has led to some unique discoveries on the benefits of yoga for different water sports from competitive swimming to free diving. Andrei’s Asana practice pictures and videos are very inspiring for yoga practitioners of any level.
With summer here, our yoga journey experiences a shift both physically and mentally. Maintaining a regular yoga practice will enable good progress as warm weather provide better circulation and increased flexibility especially for students with strong muscles and joints. It is also recommended to practice the cooling breathing techniques such as seetkari, seetali or sadanta to prevent the body from over heating.
From next month onwards, we will be featuring a new section named “Yoga Therapy and Research”. This will be a useful section for both students and teachers alike. This section will include lots of interesting references from the latest research finding and development on each disease which will be featured every month.
As always enjoy your practice and reading the Asana Journal.
